
About the Author
Mouni Bouallam is a multidisciplinary artist: actress, producer and theatre director. After studying political science at the University of Constantine (2007), she trained in filmmaking at ISMAS in Algiers (2015), then obtained a master's degree in theatrical directing at Aix-Marseille Université in 2024. That same year, she founded Moon Light Film in Algeria. In 2015, she directed her first documentary La Mariée de la Casbah, before pursuing an acting career in cinema and television. In 2025, she directed Carnaval Romain and is developing her second documentary, The Thread and the Wall.
Developed Projects
On her wedding day, at 36, Mouni discovers an intimate blockage linked to an ancient ritual of female virginity sealing, the tasfih, which she underwent at the age of 10 in Algeria. This revelation profoundly disrupts her social and emotional life, setting her on a personal quest for understanding and healing.
