About the Author

Background

Emma Onesti (Salerno, 1999) is an Italian director and artist. After graduating in Art History and later in Film in Milan, she has been working for several years in the fields of documentary and video art. Her first short film, TATIANA (2022) an experimental artist portrait—premiered at the Filmmaker Festival in the Prospettive section and was subsequently screened at several other festivals, including Working Title, Vertigo Film Fest, and Chameleon Film Festival. Her documentary Where Are We? (Dove siamo?) won the First Prize at the 2023 Filmmaker Festival in the same category and went on to participate in Visioni Italiane 2024 and Front Doc 2024, where it received the Zalab Award. A small Italian tour for the film is scheduled for 2025. Her installation A Small Seaside Atlas (Piccolo Atlante Balneare), created and produced with Lab80, was presented at Lago Film Fest 2024 and exhibited across various cultural centers in Milan, Bergamo, Brescia, and Porto (Portugal). In 2024, she participated in the Becoming Maestre masterclass—organized by Netflix and the David di Donatello Awards for young women in cinema and attended an artistic residency under the supervision of Michelangelo Frammartino and Giovanni Cioni. She is currently developing her second feature-length documentary within the In Progress workshop, organized by the Milano Film Network.
