About the Author

Background

Hugo Nilly was born in Thann (Haut-Rhin). Drawn to cinema from an early age, he enrolled in a film school in Bordeaux at the age of 18. His work explores contemporary themes such as predation mechanisms, the discovery of sexuality, and the challenges of education. In 2023, he won the Best Film Award for YAMS. Since 2024, he has been developing Contrition, a noir short film currently seeking funding and produced with Pierre-Hugues Mortini (2.4.7 Films). At the same time, he is writing Diesel, which was selected for the LabSud 2026 screenwriting residency.

Diesel

In a dystopian city abandoned by adults, children survive in rival gangs, haunted by monsters. Diesel, a teenager, kidnaps girls to feed his monstrous mother, until he falls in love with one of them. During a nighttime chase, he discovers freedom in its most beautiful and terrifying forms, and begins to question everything his mother taught him.
