
About the Author
Born in 1990 in Cannes, Coralie Watanabe Prosper is a writer, screenwriter, director, and stage director. A graduate of ESRA Nice, she directed Adieu et à bientôt and Mathi(eu), two award-winning short films screened internationally. Alongside her film work, she spent several years as a casting assistant. After studying theater in England, she founded her own company, Sakura no Ki no Shita 桜の木の下. Coralie has just completed her short film Kotowari (断り) and is currently developing her feature film Wagako (我が子), co-produced in Japan by Hirokazu Kore-eda’s production company. In parallel, she is beginning the script for her second feature film, Sista’.

The life of Saki, a young Japanese woman newly arrived in France, takes a dramatic turn one evening when she hears domestic violence in her apartment building. In trying to help her Moroccan neighbor Zarahwho, like her, does not speak French. Saki is far from imagining the adversity that awaits them both.
Tom, in his thirties, lives in France with his Japanese wife, Sakura, and their four-year-old son, Genki. The little family leads an ordinary and fulfilled existence. However, their balance explodes during a trip to Japan where Sakura dies in a tragic accident. From then on, the Japanese family with traditional customs considered that their duty was to raise Genki in Japan. An inconceivable decision for Tom, determined to fight to remain the mother of her child.
